Tekla White is a freelance writer from Woodland, California. She is a member of the California Reading Association, Author’s Guild, and the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators.
She received the 2002 Lighthouse for Literacy Award from the Sacramento Area Reading Association.
Her book, Missions of the San Francisco Bay Area, is a Lerner Publication. The Flight of the Union, published by Carolrhoda, is a young readers’ historical fiction story.
Ms. White has written and photographed features for magazines and The San Jose Mercury News. Her work covers a variety of subjects including articles on braces, fleas, migrant education, and apples.
Ms. White is the author and co-author of multi-cultural, reading, language arts, logic, and math workbooks. She has written stories for DC Heath, Scott Foresman, Celebration Press, and other reading programs. Two of her Evan-Moor books are Read and Understand Nonfiction for grades 4-6 and Read and Understand Fiction for grades 4-6. She adapted stories for Myths and Legends in The Read and Understand series, Literature Pockets Folktales & Fairytales for grades 2-3, and Literature Pockets Tall Tales.
