Anna Grossnickle Hines
After seven years of "encouraging rejections" I sold
my first book to Greenwillow Books on Friday, November
13th, 1981, an auspicious beginning. The book, TASTE
THE RAINDROPS, was released in 1983 on Valentine's Day.
Since then there have been approximately sixty more;
some that I wrote, others I illustrated and most for
which I did both.
In the late nineties, inspired by my mother's quilt-making,
I began using quilts as a medium for illustrations.
This has opened up a whole new world for me. So far
I have published three books using fabric; WHISTLING,
written by Elizabeth Partridge, and two collections
of original poetry, PIECES: A YEAR IN POEMS AND QUILTS,
and WINTER LIGHTS: A SEASON IN POEMS AND QUILTS, both
of which have been rewarded with multiple starred reviews.
More fabric illustrations are in process in Gualala,
on the northern California coast, where my husband Gary
and I are frequently visited by our three daughters
and their growing families.
Anna's website:
www.aghines.com The illustrations are both from
WINTER LIGHTS.
