Ashley grew up in Middlebury, Vermont and firmly believed she was the title character in Blueberries For Sal. Next, she was determined to live the free life of Pippi Longstocking and after that she longed to join the sisters of Swallows and Amazons. The trouble was, none of those girls were also artists. Then, as now, there are not a lot of artistic characters to identify with, especially when you are a girl. So what is a child to do?

Practice.
Observe.
Practice a lot more.
Go to school.
Practice.
and most of all, love what she does so much that she really wants to keep... practicing.
Ashley still practices every day in a small, messy studio in Bernal Heights, kept company by her dog Lucy.
