Bethanie Murguia did her graduate study at the School
of Visual Arts where she received her MFA in Illustration.
She had the honor of studying with legendary fine artists,
illustrators and authors, including her thesis advisor
Peter Sis whose encouragement and dedication greatly
increased her reverence for children's books. She was
awarded a merit scholarship after completing her first
year of work in the program. She then lived in Manhattan
for six years where she worked as an art director for
various publications. Since relocating to the Bay Area,
she has continued to work as an art director and creative
director for a variety of design and marketing firms.
She has also continued to paint; her watercolors have
won numerous awards and have been displayed in a variety
of galleries.
Fairly recently, she took on the challenging and extremely
rewarding role of "mama". This step away from the hectic
pace of art direction has allowed her to return to creating
children's picture books, inspired by daily adventures
with her two-year old daughter and faithful dog, Disco.
