I feel pretty lucky to be an artist. First as a fine
artist showing in galleries and teaching, then as a
textbook illustrator, and then as a commercial illustrator.
But creating art is a solitary way to spend a lifetime,
all those thousands of hours at the easel or bent over
a drawing board, reminding myself to breathe; and working
all night to make a deadline. And then there’s all that
research. Self-discipline and patience come with the
territory, and time spent thinking tends to make an
artist philosophical.
I admire all artists for their unique accomplishments,
contributions and the beauty of their souls. The world
needs its artists and I am grateful to the world for
taking care of the rest.
