In 1985 Michelle went to The Richmond College in London,
England, for two years, and inspired by the art of Europe,
she returned to San Francisco to complete her studies
at the Academy of Art University with a BFA in Illustration
in 1992. After attending an SCBWI conference, she went
on to get her MFA in 1995 with a concentration in Children's
Book Illustration.
The colorful world of art for children is one aspect
of Michelle's creative life. An interior designer by
profession, she has also obtained a Certificate in Surface
and Textile Design in 2002 from The California School
of Professional Fabric Design, Berkeley. With fabrics
and textile design as a passion, Michelle now serves
on the Board of Directors for the Textile Arts Council
of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. Always present
in her work is a love of color, pattern, and an appreciation
of the emotions and uncanny perceptions of the world
through a child's eyes.
