Tekla White
|
Tekla loves writing tall tales, inventing new characters and writing about the real world, past and present. She is the author of Missions of the San Francisco Bay Area (Lerner Publications) and The Flight of the Union (Carolrhoda). She has written nonfiction and fiction books for reading programs. Her stories and photographs about migrant education, braces, fleas, apples, and a variety of other subjects have been featured in newspapers and magazines. Tekla, a retired teacher, is the author and co-author of multicultural, reading, language arts, logic, and math workbooks. She received the Sacramento Area Reading Association's 2002 Lighthouse for Literacy Author's Award. Tekla earned a B.A. in English Writing from the University of Washington, the M.A. degree in Spanish Literature from Holy Names College in Oakland, California, and a California teaching credential. She studied anthropology and archaeology in Mexico. |
