Kirby Larson went from history-phobe to history fanatic thanks to a snippet of a story about her great-grandmother homesteading in eastern Montana. That bit of family lore inspired her to write HATTIE BIG SKY, a young adult historical novel, which is a 2007 Newbery Honor Award and Montana Book Award winner, as well as a Junior Library Guild selection, a Borders Original Voices title, a Barnes & Noble Teen Discover title, a School Library Journal Best Book and a Book Links Lasting Connections, in addition to being nominated for several state reading/Children’s Choice awards. Her other titles include THE MAGIC KERCHIEF, an award-winning picture book, and several chapter books. She is recently retired from the faculty of the Whidbey Writers Workshop MFA program and is a frequent presenter at writing conferences.

Jeff Jackson is an animator, illustrator and storyboard artist who has worked professionally since 1997. His first love was, and still is, illustration with an emphasis on animals. He freelances and currently teaches figure drawing, perspective drawing, storyboarding, animation, and, of course, animal drawing at Cogswell College in Sunnyvale, California.

Victoria Rock, worked for three years at the Putnam Publishing Group in New York, primarily as an Editor with Philomel Books . In 1987, she decided to flee the big city and head West; and as serendipity would have it, Chronicle Books had been thinking about starting a children's list. At Chronicle she has held the position of Editor, Director of Children's Books and most recently Associate Publisher. In January 2007, she stepped away from heading the group and now has the incredibly long title of Founding Children's Publisher and Editor-at-Large. What that means is she has more time to focus on making books!

Pamela Bobowicz is an Assistant Editor at Delacorte Press, an imprint of Random House Children's books. She has been at RH for almost four years, beginning in the adult Bantam Dell division as an Associate, and then moving to the Children's side where she has worked for 3 years. She works with Executive Editor, Wendy Loggia.

Heidi Kilgras is an Editorial Director at Random House Children’s Books in New York, NY. She oversees illustrated books for children ages 8 & under—from baby and board books, to novelty books, picture books, and beginning readers. She also edits the occasional middle-grade novel, and even writes beginning readers now and again. Heidi is interested in illustrators who can write well—across a wide variety of age groups and potential formats.

Judy Enderle and Stephanie Gordon are partners in the critique-by-mail service, Writers Ink, specializing in children’s literature. They are also published authors. Works include Two Badd Babies, Hide-and-Seek Turkeys, What’s the Matter, Kelly Beans? and Smile, Principessa. They have written in all genres, including children’s magazines and television.

Jeri Chase Ferris is the award-winning children's author of eleven biographies, mostly about people who have done great and important deeds but have been overlooked in history. Her current novel is historical fiction set in Leningrad, USSR (now St. Petersburg, Russia) during the 900-day WW II Siege. This book comes from her passion for Russia and its history, culture, and people, and her desire to convey the unimaginable experiences of the people and youth of 1941 Leningrad to American young people. In addition to writing about history, Jeri enjoys bringing this history to life in her school visits.

Liz Hockinson As a child my favorite things: books, movies and dance carried me away into a world of my imagination. After teaching English, writing for a newspaper, and choreographing in my dance studio, Le Ballet, I needed a more intimate form of expression. So in the past ten years I've concentrated on writing for children. Like the main character in my book Marcello The Movie Mouse, I feel "I am so little, but my dream is so big."
